Thousands in capital bid farewell to a voice of light in the darkness'
JANEY Godley completed her "final tour" of her "beloved festival home" in Edinburgh afternoon yesterday Thousands of fans lined the Royal Mile to pay their respects to the Stirling-born comedian, who passed away on November 2 after a battle with ovarian cancer.
A procession was held a day ahead of Janey's funeral with her coffin carried through Lawnmarket and towards St Giles Cathedral where it paused for reflection.
Janey's body was accompanied by close friend Shirley Doig on her final farewell to the city, where she spent every August performing at the Festival Fringe.As the cortège reached the crowds, it was met by a round of applause from fans and the all-female 100-piece Sound House Choir, who went on to sing Amazing Grace and One Day Like This.
Janey's daughter, Ashley Storrie, briefly joined mourners during a two-minute silence.Roses were thrown before the hearse as Janey and family left the Royal Mile for her journey home to Glasgow.
