But the Edinburgh fullback reckons it worked a treat for his troops on Sunday as they went on to beat Toulon 33-20 in their Champions Cup opener.
The French club have won the tournament three times and they showed their class as they raced ahead at the Hive.
But Edinburgh refused to panic and their patience paid off as they finished the stronger team.
