Davies warns the Cappielow board to get the set up right and not make same mistakes as Derby

HARD WORK HAS TO BE TON NOW

Imrie, left, and Davies are on the same page when it comes to Morton's ambitions

BILLY DAVIES has admitted working with “driven” Dougie Imrie to push Morton towards their Premiership goal was the big driver in his return to football.

The former Nottingham Forest and Motherwell manager raised eyebrows when, after 11 years out, he decided to become technical head coach at Cappielow back in July.

Davies has been impressed with boss Imrie and the desire at Morton to end a 37-year absence from the topflight.

And while he'd love it to happen this season, it's vital the right foundations are in place to ensure the club doesn’t come crashing straight back down.

Davies led Derby County back to the Premier League after an exile of five years in his first season in charge in 2007 but was sacked in November that year with the Rams bottom of the league.

Relegation was confirmed the following March and they went down with a record-low points total.
