Fresh hope for answers after suicide ruling

THE shattered parents of RAF firefighter Robert Fleeting have been handed fresh hope for a second inquest into their son's death.

- BY BILLY GADDI

The 24-year-old, from East Kilbride, was found hanged in his room at RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, in 2011 following a night out with his comrades.

His death was ruled a suicide in a coroner's inquest a year later.

But mum Susan, dad Charlie and sister Stacy-Anne have fought relentlessly for answers, convinced his death was not properly investigated and that foul play was involved.

The family believe he was "murdered in an initiation ceremony" and insist that vital questions remain unanswered.

These include doubts over physical injuries, conflicting evidence, unknown DNA, questionable suicide notes and the fact he never received a forensic autopsy despite recommendations.

The Attorney General has now given formal consent - known as a fiat - allowing the family to apply to the High Court for a fresh inquest.
