Having worked with the likes of Neuer, Kimmich, Muller, Alaba and Lewandowski, Rohl knows all about a strong squad core and that's what he aims to have at Rangers now

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

FINDING leaders in the Bayern Munich dressingroom wasn't difficult for Danny Rohl.

During his time at the Allianz Arena as assistant coach, he was spoilt for choice when it came to big personalities.

Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Muller, David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski.

The star names were rolling off the German's tongue as he sat in the Groupama Stadium in Budapest last night.

He was talking about how he wants to build a new Rangers’ core at Ibrox, full of proper leaders with real character.

At Bayern, it wasn't a problem. But it has been at Ibrox for a number of years now.

And that's what Rohl will look to - partly at least - address in the January transfer window.

He's keen to get defender John Souttar tied up on a new contract after being impressed with his influence on the Ibrox dressing-room.

Jack Butland will also undoubtedly come into that category.

As would skipper James Tavernier, although his future at the club is still uncertain with just six months left on his deal. The likes of Dujon Sterling might also be part of it if he returns from injury here in Hungary and finds his true form again in a Rangers jersey.

Rohl's vision is

to have a blend of experienced leaders and young talent but he knows it won't be achieved overnight.
