Mum of drugs victim blasts council for approving expansion after pledging to stop filling Queens Park Hotel

- BY MARK McGIVERN Chief Reporter

OWNERS of a “hellhole" hotel have been slammed for plans to "cram in" more residents despite claims that conditions are already “inhumane”.

The notorious Queens Park Hotel, where several people have died of drug overdoses, have been granted permission to create 17 more rooms.

Despite Glasgow City Council pledging to end the use of such hotels for homeless people, the expansion allows the Queens Park owners to accommodate 76 residents - up 24 per cent on the current total.

Linda McVean, whose son Frankie died after taking street valium at the hotel in 2023, said that she was appalled at the hotel owners now upping the capacity.

She said: "When I walk past that place I can only think of Frankie and the conditions that he died in.

"After all that has been revealed about what goes on there, I'm sick to hear that the owners are cramming more people in.

"I'm also amazed that Glasgow City Council isn't doing anything to stop it, as they promised they would stop sending people there."

Frankie, a scaffolder, wasn't a drug addict but is believed to have been sucked into trying the cheap, deadly blue pills that were openly being exchanged in and around the hotel.
