Trump's war will ramp up cost of living for Brits. Struggling households to need more bills help

MORE support will be needed to help struggling households cope with soaring bills due to the knock-on effects of the turmoil in the Middle East, analysts say.

They predict US President Donald Trump and Israel's war with Iran is set to cost some UK households £1300 a year, with the cost of fuel and mortgages having already jumped.

Now energy suppliers are warning gas and electricity could surge by £250 a year on the back of a spike in wholesale costs.

And there are warnings that everything from air fares to shop prices are also increasing.

The TUC's Paul Nowak said: "This illegal war and ongoing chaos will continue to threaten living standards. More support will likely be needed to stave off Trumpflation."

There are calls for support with energy bills. Most households are shielded thanks to Ofgem's price cap, which will fall by 7% from April 1. But the concern is what happens when the cap changes in July.

Trade body Energy UK says that, based on predictions from energy suppliers, the typical household could face a £250 jump in their annual gas and electricity bill in the final three months of 2026 to an average £1891.
