No.2 lost their opening fourballs and Team USA never recovered.

Yesterday was the first time Europe - who whitewashed the States in the first session two years ago in Rome - had won the opening session in the USA since that day.

DeChambeau is now 0-3 in Ryder Cup foursomes while his fellow LIV Golf stars Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm - who is 5-0 - are undefeated together.

The Spaniard said: "We were aware it was going to be a tough day. Two of their better favorites up there, two of the crowd favorites. We knew the crowd was going to be loud, and well, we are going to need our best.

"And even though we didn't have our best start during the first seven holes, we battled, we stayed in it and from then on we started hitting good shots and getting really positive vibes. I am just glad we were able to get it done."

A crushing 4&3 win at 10.32am local time could not have been predicted when the opening match teed off just after dawn at 7.10am
