DENNIS GEIGER is craving a fresh start at Aberdeen and revealed he was sold on Scotland after seeing the Tartan Army light up the Euros.

The midfielder has joined on loan from Hoffenheim for the season, with an option of a long-term deal beyond that.

Going the other way was Adil Aouchiche, whose loan from Sunderland was cut shot to allow him to make a free transfer to Schalke.

Geiger admitted Dons sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel was a driving factor - along with the fan culture he witnessed at the finals two years ago.

The German said: “For me, this is the best decision and I can't wait. It is a restart and a new beginning.

“I want to get out of my comfort zone.

“Lutz is here, the club and the Scottish football fans.

“Every footballer knows about the Scottish fans.

Geiger has spent his career at Hoffenheim, first coming across Pfannenstiel when he was working in their recruitment department.
