Ex-meter reader says he couldn't face handing people sky-high bills as costs go up yet again

SCOTS struggling to pay their bills have hit out over the latest energy price hike that kicks in today.

The energy price cap will rise by two per cent, hiking the average annual bill to £1755 for a typical household.

Yesterday, protesters gathered in Glasgow city centre to highlight the plight of households being forced to choose between "heating and eating".

Former electricity meter reader Gerry Heffernan said he'd be ashamed to tell hard-up Scots what their bills are in the current climate.

The former Scottish and Southern Electricity worker, from Glasgow, will pay out more than £250 a month over the winter.

Gerry said: "I've seen people struggling with bills and I've been involved in moving customers across from one company to another as they tried to make ends meet.
