Gers finally have chance to snatch top spot after epic catch-up effort but doubts remain over their killer instinct... and how will Jambos cope with heat if they're to become hunters after so long out in front?

WE'VE still got a bit to go before the Premiership prize is held aloft.

But for Rangers, there is a significant first finally within touching distance.

It may be fleeting, so much so it may last less than 24 hours.

But if Danny Rohl’s side can beat Dundee United a week on Saturday, a squad that was once assumed to be dead and buried when the 36-year-old arrived will find themselves sitting on top looking down on all the rest.

To see Rangers leading the table, even for one night only, is a prospect that frankly would have appeared ridiculous when Rohl first draped his towel on the lounger that Russell Martin had just been tipped out of in October.

Only eight league games had been played by the time Rohl stepped in to fix the mess left behind by his predecessor and yet Rangers were already 13 points adrift of Hearts.

They have been playing catch-up ever since.

In what has become something of a game of snakes and ladders, they have chipped away at that lead over the last five months.

They slithered as close as two points to Derek McInnes and his Gorgie shock troops at one stage, only to then slide away again.

But finally, after months of twists and turns, it is now Rangers who have the chance to snatch the lead.
