SANDIE Peggie is "beyond relieved" after a tribunal ruled she was unlawfully harassed by NHS Fife in a row over sharing a staff changing room with a trans colleague.

But she described her two-year fight for justice as “agonising” amid calls by a Labour MP for health board bosses to quit.

The mum was suspended from work in January 2024 after she complained to bosses about biological male Dr Beth Upton using the female changing area at the A&E department in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

In a 312-page written judgement yesterday, health board chiefs were criticised over their handling of a dispute that began when the nurse and Dr Upton rowed in December 2023.

Sandie was placed on special leave after the transgender medic made an allegation of bullying and harassment concerns.

NHS guidance at the time stated said that transgender men and women were allowed to use the changing rooms that aligned with their declared gender identity.

The nurse launched a claim against NHS Fife and Dr Upton alleging sexual harassment and victimisation.

The harassment claim was upheld, but allegations of discrimination, indirect discrimination and victimisation were dismissed. A separate hearing will take place to decide whether Sandie is entitled to financial compensation.
