110k affordable homes pledge still 'on track'

JOHN Swinney has said the Scottish Government is "on track" to meet its goal of building 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, despite reports the target is at risk.

The First Minister and Edinburgh council's leader also said it is necessary to buy newbuild homes for social housing.

Yesterday, it was reported Edinburgh council is spending more than £95million over two years buying homes from private developers.

With 335 properties purchased, the sum means the average home has cost the council almost £285,000.
