- MICHAEL GANNON

been any way back from this abyss, Nancy needed to sell his soul and abandon his approach.

But this was a disaster of biblical proportions even before Saturday's soul-destroying loss to Rangers.

Within a week of arriving, Nancy had lost a top-of-the-table clash against Hearts, a crunch home European clash versus Roma and - worst of all - acup final to St Mirren.

Added to the results there was an almighty stink-up over his green adidas and Connect Four board on day one v Hearts.

Right then, there was barely aCeltic fan who didn't know the die had been cast. In reality, Nancy's reign was over before it had really begun. The big wonder is why wasn't he binned right away, what took so long?

Most clubs ofa similar stature with similar demands would have bounced him out the door after that first week.

Except Celtic don't often work like other clubs. Sometimes that's not a bad thing.

Not many clubs have tens of millions in reserve and have won 13 out of 14 titles.
