Wetherspoon Shotton

WHENEVER I review a fry up, someone always seems to comment that you can’t beat a Wetherspoon for a value breakfast. I decided to see what the fuss was about by sampling the spoons breakfast at the distinctive three storey building of the Shotton Central Hotel.

Wetherspoon Shotton

JD Wetherspoon bought the rundown premises in 2008, and carried out a major refurbishment to the pub, which is conveniently located right next to the Railway Station.

We walked through a pleasant open seating area between the pub building and the busy street, which had some hardy people nursing their drinks alfresco.

Inside, the interior is in a typical Wetherspoon’s mock-Edwardian style. There was a single very long bar, which was partially separated into two similarly furnished areas by an original wall.

There were interesting old pictures displayed around the place, such as photographs and information boards. There were some with the history of the iron and steel industry to others detailing the story about the castles in the area.

The Central Hotel in Chester Road West is listed in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide for 2025. You can't really go wrong with the extensive choice of both local and guest beers, which are stored well with even keener prices.

However, it was far too early to sample its adult beverages. Instead, we browsed the breakfast menu, which looked incredibly cheap at first glance.

Breakfast is served between 8am and 12 noon and includes a small breakfast from £2.99.
