WARBURTON BIDS FOR BRITISH TITLE – AND A BIT OF LOCAL HISTORY

COLWYN BAY’S Gerome Warburton heads to London this weekend promising to do what no boxer has ever done - bring a British championship back to North Wales.

The 29-year-old middleweight challenges for the vacant title against Northampton’s Kieron Conway, who will also put his Commonwealth belt on the line.

Their clash will provide the chief support to the heavyweight rematch between Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen at the Copper Box Arena in the English capital.

‘And despite the prospect of boxing in the biggest fight of his life, in front of an estimated crowd of 5,000 and on the DAZN broadcast _ platform, Warburton says he feels no pressure.

“| ain’t putting pressure on myself, ‘cos I already know I'll win,’ he tells Boxing News in an interview published in the magazine this week.

“Everyone from here who's tried [to win the British title] has lost - but not me.”
