Temperatures set to rise across UK next week

A PLUME of warm air is poised to flood the UK from next week, pushing up the mercury.

Following a stormy start to August, temperatures could rise to the high 20s in England with some of this heat making its way to Wales. This could be the start of a developing trend, with high pressure ridging more strongly across southern Britain in mid August, potentially bringing some scorching weather to England and Wales. During this period, highs of 26C-27C are projected for eastern Wales, and 29C-30C in England.

Weather models are currently in general agreement over the prospect of warmer weather in the coming days and weeks. The Met Office itself is advising that, by the middle of August, there is an "increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, more settled conditions becoming more widespread with above average temperatures".
