TAKINGS 'DOWN BY 85%' FOR STORE AND POST OFFICE THAT RELIES HEAVILY ON PASSING TRADE

The ‘half mile’ of roadworks that’s cut off village shop for six weeks in peak summer

- By OWEN HUGHES Chief Reporter

A “HALF mile” of roadworks has left a shop and post office “cut off” from its customers. Tal-y-Bont store and post office in the Conwy Valley is popular with villagers but also relies on passing trade on the busy B5106.

It does particularly well in the summer months as the area is boosted by thousands of extra visitors.

But for the last six weeks the store has had a long set of roadworks outside that has stopped drivers from pulling in anywhere near their front door.

The work by SP Energy Networks is to upgrade the system for properties in the village from overhead cables to underground links.

It was due to last around a week but hit a snag when a culvert was damaged. This saw work stopped for three weeks but the roadworks remain and has now impacted the timescale of the whole scheme, meaning it will run over most the summer.
