AN AIRPORT café where customers can watch planes landing while dining on “delicious” food has been named the best café in Wales.

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE Countryside and Tourism Editor

Competition organisers were so impressed by the Gwynedd venture, they even declared it the country’s best business in the entire Welsh food sector.

Caernarfon Airport Café collected a host of accolades at this year’s Best of Welsh Food Industry Awards in Swansea. It got the nod as the country’s top café based on a public vote and the evidence it submitted.

‘The café’s popularity has continued to grow since it was taken in-house by Caernarfon Airport three years ago.

Previously it operated as Caffi Hem, a venture run by the Wales Air Ambulance with all profits funding its helicopter operations.

Café manager Ann Smith was delighted with the awards. “The café is doing really well,” she said.

“At times we have customers queuing up for tables. It can get busy but the team is very efficient and we can usually seat everyone within 15 minutes.”
