"NIGHTMARE" roadworks in a seaside village saw drivers resort to using a car park as a "rat run" Work by Wales & West Utilities has seen the A546 blocked at Deganwy-with the road a busy link between Llandudno and Llandudno Junction and the A55.

It has been a disaster for businesses in the village, who say they have been left "marooned". Access had not been possible from Llandudno Junction - without a detour - as the first part of the work was carried out.

The roadworks recently moved to a section that allows access to the village centre from the Junction/ Conwy direction but this caused an issue that was flagged by a local resident.

As reported in The Daily Post on Monday, the location of the start and end of the works meant that drivers could nip into the sta tion car park and out the opposite end - at the other side of the works.

This created a rat run and one person working near to the car park said they saw more than 200 vehicles use this to dodge the roadworks over a fourhour period on Thursday afternoon.

They said this was causing a major safety risk, with drivers from Llandudno entering the nar row car park at the end where vehicles are supposed to exit - ignoring 'no entry' signs.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said they saw several near misses and a cyclist struck by a car. They reported this to Conwy council.
