Netflix star impressed with revamped pub where 'everything appears to be Welsh'

CELEBRATED actor Matthew Rhys was given some proper Welsh hospitality when he appeared in Bangor, Gwynedd, for a one-man play about Richard Burton's life.

Instead of staying overnight at a chain hotel, he headed to a community pub recently given an eye-catching makeover.

On arriving at the Ty'n Llan pub in Llandwrog, near Caernarfon, he found his room was fit for a Hollywood star, likening it to a "palace".

The Cardiff-born actor, currently starring in Netflix thriller The Beast In Me, was also impressed to find that "everything appears to be Welsh", pointing out a woollen tapestry woven at Brynkir wool mill.

"It's an amazing place," he enthused.

Rhys Ifans also backed a community fundraising appeal to buy the premises in 2021. In just a few months, £465,200 was raised, exceeding the target by £65,200.

This year, Ty'n Llan underwent a major redevelopment and refurbishment, transforming many of the rooms beyond recognition. A new extension was also added for a modern restaurant with views towards the Eifl mountains.
