Mid-Wales gears up for Tour de France action

The riders in the world’s most famous cycle race will, over three days, travel the length of the UK, before the action then moves to France. Both the men and women’s races will begin in the UK - the first time they have ever started in the same country, outside France.

The 2027 men’s race will start in Edinburgh on Friday, July 2, with an opening stage heading to Carlisle. The race will then travel through the Lake District and Liverpool.

The men’s race will come to Wales on its third and final day in the UK, on Sunday July 4. The 223km route will start in Powis Castle and end in Cardiff.

The route will start in Welshpool - just 30 miles south of Wrexham - weaving down through Llanbister, Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells. From there it will go to Garth, Pwllgloyw and Brecon. The Cote de Bannau Brycheiniog is next, through to Treherbert and Treorchy, followed by Cote de Maerdy.

It will go through Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil and Caerphilly before the final metres in Cardiff.
