Jobless staff 'now left struggling to pay bills' after collapse of hotel

Marlborough Hotel in Llandudno

The Daily Post revealed at the weekend that the Marlborough hotel near the North Shore seafront had shut.

Staff were informed on Friday - the day they were due to receive their weekly wage packets.

Workers were told the business had run out of money - forcing the closure of the hotel that has been trading for over a century.

The 40-bedroom hotel was bought by Jean Murphy and her late husband John for £1.3m back in 2007.

The closure will see Jean Murphy lose her home and business, which employed around 20 staff.

A worker - who asked not to be named - said they had huge sympathy for Jean and that the team had been a “close knit” group.

But they said the closure came as a shock and on the day staff were due to get their wages.

The hotel was closed already for the winter break after Christmas and New Year with staff paid their owed annual holiday leave during this period.
