Holiday firm sackings over hygiene rating

A HOLIDAY giant says it has sacked a number of staff members at a luxury resort in North Wales after a damning food hygiene report.

The Marian Resort and Spa in Dyserth reopened in March 2024 after a multi-million pound transformation by new owners Lyons Holiday Parks, which owns more than 20 sites across North Wales and Cumbria.

Its kitchens had initially been given a five star food hygiene rating but they were given an unannounced inspection in October.

This found a raft of issues - including unfit food, high risk food past its sell-by date, and dirty equipment.

There were also areas not cleaned sufficiently, a large number of flies in a dry-stores area, as well as holes in internal walls and gaps in external pipes.

The site was downgraded to a zero rating and bosses warned that failure to respond could see enforcement action taken.
