HCC market update: NSL prices show week-on-week increase

THE New Season Lamb (NSL) SQQ deadweight average across Great Britain recorded a week- on-week increase for the first time in four weeks.

The average now stands at 662.5p/kg following a 1.1p/kg uplift, whilst NSL numbers forward fell by a notable 10% on the week to 33,180 head.

This current level is over 20% lower than the corresponding period last year, and reflects tighter availability than usual for this point in the season following the highs of mid-October.

Despite the week-on-week fall, the average continues to trend almost 49p/kg higher than year-earlier levels, and a notable £1.28p/kg higher than the longer term 5-year average.
