Druid's radical plan to unify Wales through its myths and legends
Daily Post
|February 25, 2026
AN ANGLESEY druid has called on ministers to establish a national museum celebrating Welsh mythology.
Deborah Rose Hālani
Deborah Rose Halani said such a facility would thrust Wales on to the global stage while instilling a national sense of belonging.
She envisages an immersive experience similar to Van Gogh and Harry Potter showcases.
Virtual reality could be used to bring alive The Mabinogi, the UK’s earliest and most influential collection of ancient mythologies featuring a cast of mythical kings, sorcerers, giants, beasts and shapeshifters.
These tales shaped the Arthurian legends and were a major influence on JRR Tolkien's fantasy fiction.
Deborah said a “mythology museum” could also feature live storytelling performances and display the original Mabinogion manuscripts, currently housed at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.
The proposal echoes post-Covid recommendations made by tourism experts to the Welsh Affairs Committee in 2022.
Academics from Brunel University of London said the country should take a leaf from the Harry Potter books and rebrand itself as “The Land of Dragons and Legends” in order to appeal to international visitors.
Deborah, a member of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, believes a national mythology centre would connect the country culturally.

Wales needs to move up the tourism value chain
TOURISM is still too often treated by politicians in Wales as a “nice-to-have” - seasonal, useful for jobs, good for communities but not with the seriousness we reserve for manufacturing, fintech or life sciences in any debate on the Welsh economy.
