DRIVERS across the UK are being warned they could face unexpected fines over the festive period for everyday motoring oversights.

These range from expired MOTs to dirty lights and even eating festive food behind the wheel, according to My Car Reg Check.

With millions of motorists travelling for Christmas parties, family visits and New Year celebrations, winter conditions combined with heavier traffic increase the risk of minor issues turning into fines, penalty points or roadside stops.

Experts at My Car Reg Check say many drivers are unaware that common festive habits - such as delaying MOT renewals over bank holidays or driving with decorations on the dashboard - can leave them unknowingly breaking the law.
