FIGURES SHOW AT LEAST 175 UNDER-10S ACCUSED OF RANGE OF OFFENCES ACROSS NORTH WALES

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE

SCORES of children aged under 10 have been accused of committing often serious offences in North Wales over the last two years.

The youngest was a three-year-old from Rhyl reported to the police for “nonfatal strangulation and suffocation’.

Three youngsters aged four also came to police attention.

Of these, two were reported for common assault and battery (violence without injury), in Denbigh and Conwy town.

The third, also from Denbigh, was accused of ABH.

In the two years to September 30, 175 offences involving youngsters aged under 10 were reported to North Wales Police in Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy and Denbighshire.

Figures were not provided by Wrexham and Flintshire. As all were below the age of criminal responsibility, the vast majority were not charged with a crime.

The figures, disclosed by the police in a Freedom of Information request, have lifted to lid on the scale of offending by young children in North Wales.
