Blues approached villa game right way – it's time to build on victory

Everton's victory at Aston Villa has to be up there with the result achieved against Manchester United at Old Trafford with 10 men and what pleased me most was the way we went about it.

Last week, I was questioning David Moyes and the players after the three disappointing results at Hill Dickinson Stadium, so going to Aston Villa, who have been in fantastic form, especially at home, when we're still struggling with numbers and personnel, even the staunchest Evertonian would have struggled to be positive about what could happen.

So, therefore you've got to give David Moyes and the players huge credit because tactically it was spot on.

We know how Aston Villa play and how effective they are with those banks of midfield. Losing captain John McGinn to injury early on obviously didn't help them but I thought our game plan was really good.

Harrison Armstrong was excellent again, not just on the ball but in his awareness of where to be and in trying to stop Aston Villa getting the ball down and playing. We had to roll our sleeves up but those same factors that I wasn’t happy about at Hill Dickinson Stadium in terms of intensity and mentality, looking like they were playing off the cuff, were resolved here.
