NFP's Mbali Shinga to defy party's move to oust KZN premier

THE attempts by the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party to remove KwaZulu-Natal’s premier, Thami Ntuli, through a motion of no confidence have suffered a setback after the National Freedom Party’s sole member indicated that she will not support the mooted action.

In spite of a firm directive to support the Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP)-sponsored motion against Ntuli, the NFP’s sole legislature member, Mbali Shinga, said she would vote against the motion.

On Wednesday, the NFP’s national executive committee wrote to Shinga instructing her to support the motion or face consequences. However, the defiant Shinga said she would not vote against the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) of which the NFP is a member.

Shinga is the province's Social Development MEC.

Yesterday, Shinga confirmed that she received a letter from her party’s national leadership.

She refused to discuss its content, however, she was adamant that she would not follow the party’s instruction to oust Ntuli.
