Education assistants to receive overdue payments as frustration mounts

IN AN effort to address ongoing frustrations, Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube and Deputy Minister of Labour Jomo Sibiya have committed that all payments for education assistants will be processed and disbursed as of Thursday.

This announcement comes after months of concern from many assistants who have not received payments since June.

Minister Gwarube expressed her gratitude to the education assistants for their patience and professionalism during what has been a challenging period.

“Your dedication in our schools continues to make a difference in the lives of learners across South Africa,” she emphasised.

However, this commendation has been met with scepticism from affected teachers who have voiced their dissatisfaction at the protracted payment delays.
