Confronting white male racism in SA
Daily News
|May 30, 2025
RACISM is wrong. Always. It has no place. Nowhere. None. It boggles the mind that in only one week two racial incidents that catch the public eye could occur, and then also at opposite ends of the province, even if in vastly different circumstances.
One played out late at night in the dusty streets of Beaufort West, and the second in Cape Town during an official sitting of the city council in a formal address to the chamber.
In footage of the incident in Beaufort-West last Sunday, a white man with what looks like a garden spray canister, sprays black students with some substance, repeatedly shouting, “I will remove your blackness.” Footage of the incident in Cape Town on Wednesday shows security staff, as per the instruction of the speaker, forcibly removing a white, male councillor from the chamber for calling city residents from the Eastern Cape “economic migrants” in his address to the council.
