Ambitious recruitment drive to enhance healthcare services
Daily News
|November 07, 2025
THE Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has announced an ambitious plan to recruit 100 doctors by the end of November, aiming to address the ongoing shortage of medical personnel in the province's healthcare facilities.
This move is expected to bolster the healthcare workforce and enhance service delivery, as the newly recruited professionals are set to start their duties in December.
This recruitment initiative comes in response to vocal protests earlier this year, where approximately 100 unemployed doctors gathered to demand government action on hiring qualified medical personnel.
The demonstration raises the urgent need for staffing in hospitals, as essential health services have suffered greatly due to the shortage. In a proactive step to alleviate public concerns, the Department released advertisements seeking not just doctors, but also nurses and critical administrative roles.
The Deputy Director-General, Penny Msimango, confirmed that the recruitment phase is "active and ongoing," with an encouraging number of qualified applications being received.
