Judge jails family trio over death of tot, 2

A COUPLE were jailed for life yesterday for murdering their two-year-old grandson after a campaign of abuse which the boy's mother did nothing to stop.

Ethan Ives-Griffiths was subjected to weeks of physical and emotional torment by Michael Ives, 48, and his wife Kerry, 46.

Their daughter Shannon Ives, 28, was living with them and witnessed their attacks but did not report them, a court heard.

The toddler was dangerously dehydrated, severely underweight and covered in bruises when he collapsed with a catastrophic head injury at their home.

His grandparents told a trial at Mold crown court that nothing had happened to the toddler before he fainted as they watched TV in Garden City, North Wales, in August 2021. But both were convicted of murder and of cruelty to a child.
