28% rise in motor claims over damage by rodents

DRIVERS are being plagued by rats damaging their cars, an insurer has revealed.

Aviva said it recorded a 28% annual increase in motor claims for rodent damage in 2024.

The claims were for issues such as nesting in vehicles, chewed wiring and gnawed seatbelts.

Aviva is urging drivers to protect their cars from rats and mice in the colder months, when claims tend to increase as animals look for shelter.
