Outspoken broadcaster James Whale dies aged 74

AFTER a generation of Brits stumbled home drunk on a Friday night, they could watch a TV show that was even more chaotic than the pub they had just left.

James Whale, who hosted the mayhem, resisted against the emerging political correctness.

He was blunt, featured "bimbos" in hardly any clothes, kicked famous guests off and even stormed off himself once.

The star, who has died aged 74, gained national fame and notoriety on the programme The James Whale Radio Show.

But beyond the controversy, Britain's first shock jock was a consummate broadcaster with a velvety voice.
