Being on Corrie has been life-changing and the greatest honour but it's time for me to spread my wings

- BY CHRISTINE SMITH

From being shot to having an affair with a married woman, turning to booze, faking a corner shop robbery and spiking his pal's drink, Adam Hussain has had an action-packed five years in Coronation Street - and all by the age of 24.

The actor's final scenes went out on Tuesday as viewers saw his troubled character, Aadi Alahan, bid Weatherfield an emotional farewell to start a new life in India.

For Adam, who decided to leave the ITV soap in order to “spread his wings” and play other parts, filming those last scenes was both scary and exciting.

He says: “I had a whole mix of emotions as I did get very nostalgic.

“I also knew it was the right decision to go.”

Adam was 20 when he joined Corrie as Dev and Sunita’s son Aadi, taking over from Zennon Ditchett, who left to concentrate on his A-levels. Prior to that, Aadi and his twin sister Asha were played by triplets Hannah, Harris and Ria Ahmed.

But after five years, the actor says the time is right to go.

He says: “My life has changed for the better since I joined Corrie and it has been such an honour to be part of the amazing cast.

“I joined during the Covid pandemic, which was a weird and surreal time to take on a new character.

“I’ve loved playing Aadi. I have made good friends on the set and I am going to miss Corrie dearly.

“But I am going to be 25 in October and I felt it was the right time to leave. It was my decision and the producers were so understanding.

“I want to spread my wings a little, go out in the big world and see what else I can do.”

The star has already bagged himself a role in a horror movie led by award-winning director Richard Stanley.

Adam says: “I am really excited. I can’t say too much yet but I am looking forward to it. I feel lucky as I’ve also been to lots of other auditions since I finished filming my Corrie scenes in June and I’ve filmed a part in a short film, Spice For Life, too.
