Split over cops protest powers

Daily Mirror UK

October 07, 2025

THERE is a wave of fear across the country at the moment and many religious communities do not feel safe. Some people are scared to go out.

Something does need to be done and maybe these new powers will help restore some peace of mind within some of these communities.

I agree everyone has the right to protest peacefully, but many of these protests have been hijacked by factions with their own agenda.

Paul Mead, Brighton

It was appalling that organisers of the Pro-Palestine march refused to call it off after the tragedy in Manchester. New powers putting pressure on organisers not to hold protests at the same place repeatedly makes complete sense.

You cannot have one specific area having repeated disruptions. I'm not sure why so many people are angry about this. Also, the pro-Palestine group Palestine Action is a proscribed terrorist group.

Jack Leeson, Barrow-in-Furness

The Home Secretary believes repeated large-scale demonstrations over Gaza have caused “considerable fear” for the Jewish community in the wake of the synagogue attack last week. That's understandable.
