Family's heartache over hero as coast tragedy victims named, Mark, 67, died trying to save Grace, 15, & her mum Sarah, 45

- LUCY THORNTON

THE family of a man who drowned trying to save a mum and daughter in a triple tragedy said many lives have been shattered by his death.

Police yesterday named Mark Ratcliffe, 67, and Grace, 15, and Sarah Keeling, 45, who were swept out to sea as 12ft waves struck a promenade in Withernsea, East Yorks, on Friday.

Paying tribute, Mark's family said: “A true selfless hero with a heart of gold, who was so cruelly taken trying to save others. So many lives are now shattered that you're gone. You were loved by so many people, and we will all miss you for ever.”

Police said the bodies of Sarah and Mark were recovered on Friday night and searches are continuing to find Grace. Both families are being supported by specially trained officers.
