Former councillor claims party broke funding cap for leader's election fight

- BY ASHLEY COWBURN Deputy Political Editor

POLICE are looking into claims Nigel Farage's election campaign last year broke spending rules.

The Reform UK leader won a seat in Parliament at the eighth time of asking at last year's general election.

Now a former Reform councillor has alleged the party's campaign in Clacton, Essex, spent more than the £20,660 legal limit.

Richard Everett, who was on the campaign team, is said to have claimed Reform failed to declare spending on leaflets, banners, utility bills and the refurbishment of a bar in its Clacton campaign office.

He alleged the party was just £400 under the spending limit in official returns, and the undeclared spending would have put it above the cap.
