PM under pressure from parents and MPs

CHILDREN may face a social media ban, restrictions on addictive apps and stricter checks on phone use in schools under plans floated last night.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing mounting pressure to introduce a social media ban for under16s after the Tories pledged to do so if they won power - and after Australia did so last month.

So ministers last night announced a consultation to gather evidence on the best actions, such as a social media minimum age, phone curfews, tighter school rules and restricting addictive design features.

A group of 60 MPs and some bereaved parents have urged Mr Starmer to introduce an age rule.
