SAOIRSE NOONAN headed the REPUBLIC OF IRELAND to Nations League victory over SLOVENIA - but their hopes of promotion to League A remained agonisingly out of their grasp.

Ireland will now face a promotion play-off after Noonan's 19th-minute effort (above), glancing home Jessie Stapleton's cross, was only enough to secure a 1-0 win at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
Carla Ward's side needed to beat the Group B2 leaders by four goals to leapfrog them.
Louise Quinn came on for the 121st and final time in a green shirt but Ward's side could not add to their tally.
