Mistakes made but Trump trying it on

Donald Trump has threatened to sue the BBC for $1billion (£760million) for what the corporation has accepted was a misleading edit of his speech on January 6, 2021. The move comes after BBC director-general Tim Davie and News CEO Deborah Turness resigned over the debacle. You say...

IT is true that the BBC's editing of President Trump’ speeches was an error of judgment, but the trite accusations that the problem is “systemic” and “institutional”, two overused and lazy epithets, show just how deep prejudice is against our precious broadcaster.

Do we really understand the meaning of these words? What is the evidence suggesting bias and prejudice pervade the entire BBC? Is it because bias and prejudice are merely expressions of what you don't want to see, hear or believe? Or what you oppose?

All media organisations occasionally make mistakes. So why the storm of public and political outrage at the Beeb when others fail to meet proper standards too?

Trevor Rigg, Edinburgh

The apparent editing of the Panorama documentary was disappointing to those of us who defend the BBC. It was not necessary as most people have their own opinions on who orchestrated the Capitol riots.
