Record 631,472 learn drivers waiting for tess
MORE than 630,000 learner drivers are having to wait to take their tests as demand for black market slots soars.
The queue for those seeking to sit the practical exam has reached a peak of 631,472, up 20% from 527,368 a year ago.
Some are even booking now for spaces in November, it is claimed.
Despite growing demand, the number of tests sat during the first five months of this year (757,867) was 14% lower than the same period in 2024 (877,387), figures from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency show.
Learners typically face waits of 20 weeks, according to the AA.
