Lions find peace in UK as they're rescued from war in Ukraine
THREE lions who cowered in terror as shells exploded around them in Ukraine have arrived in Britain to start their new life.
Wildlife park rangers here were thrilled as the rescued cats were released into their new home after a three-day road trip from Kyiv.
Public donations helped to fund the transport costs of the 1,700-mile journey from war-torn Ukraine.
After being held up at the Polish border for 15 hours, the tired lions - one-year-olds Oleg, Rafael and Shanti - arrived at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
They will be checked by the vet and settle indoors before being released into a seven-acre habitat for lions at the award-winning attraction.
Cheryl Williams, co-founder of the park near Doncaster, South Yorks, said: "I am so relieved. They are away from the bombing now."
