800 attend funeral of PC hit by lorry while helping at crash site

TEARFUL police salute the coffin of PC Rosie Prior, who died off-duty while helping a stranger.

Officers with lowered flags lined the route of the funeral cortege to York Minster as the bells chimed 45 times, one for every year of her life.

Her coffin, with her police cap on top, was carried into the service attended by more than 800 people.

The mother of two stopped to help driver Ryan Welford, 41, at a crash scene on the A19 in Bagby, North Yorks, in January.

They were both killed in a collision with a lorry, while a teenage boy was seriously injured.
