WESLEY RIDING HIGH
Daily Mirror - Sri Lanka
|June 19, 2025
Wesley College has been in the limelight in the schools rugby arena in the past few seasons and had a fairly successful season last year. This time out they have had a 100 percent winning record and notably will be one of the teams to keep an eye on.
The Wesleyites have been unable to lay their hands on the league title, being able to only end as the second best team on three occasions. They enjoyed success in the knockout segment where they clinched the title in 2013 led by Rahul de Silva and ending up in the second slot in the years 2002, 2004 and 2019.
They began the ongoing Dialog Schools Rugby League campaign on a high note by recording a big win against the hapless Science College outfit and then followed it up with another win against D.S. Senanayake.
The team is led by fourth year coloursman and No. 8 Sandul Gammanpila and rugby blood runs in his family with his elder brother having played for the side for three years from 2019 and his father Asanka Gammanpila having led the Wesley side in the year 1998.
