Mooney’s masterclass century carries Australia to victory

BETH Mooney played one of the all-time great ODI innings in Women’s cricket to spur Australia to a commanding 107-run win against hapless Pakistan in an ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

In a spectacular display of batting where she hardly put a foot wrong, Mooney’s knock of 109 off 114 balls (11 fours) lifted Australia from the depths of despair at 76-7 to a defendable total of 221-9, after being put into bat first.

Pakistan’s reply was poor, being dismissed for 114 as they continued their wretched run in the tournament to suffer their third straight defeat. They have been dismissed for totals of 129 and 159 before yesterday.
