AA calls for signage review as incidents soar to 19 a week

Wrong-way motorway madness

REPORTS of motorists driving in the wrong direction on England's motorways have increased by 15% in the past year, an investigation has found.

The AA called the findings "frightening" and called for a "full review of signage and road layout".

Some 988 reports of "oncoming vehicles" on England's motorways were made in the year to November 17, National Highways figures show.

That is up from 858 during the previous 12 months and represents an average of 19 every week.
