WAIT WAS WORTH IT FOR POTTS

Work-horse Matt back to keep hosts in check

MATTHEW POTTS wants to show he can be a threat in all conditions after making a promising start to his touring career in Pakistan.

Potts' England Test debut came two-and-a-half years ago, at the start of the Bazball era, but he has had to wait until this week's second Test for a first overseas cap.

The sultry heat and sun-baked pitch in Multan could hardly be more different to the seamer's local stomping ground at Durham.

Potts, though, was up to the task as the tourists held Pakistan to 259-5 on the first day.

He lived up to his work-horse reputation by bowling 17 overs, breaking the key stand by Kamran Ghulam (118) and Saim Ayub (77) having the latter caught before tea - and only missing out on a second wicket when captain Ben Stokes failed to review a thin edge from Mohammad Rizwan.
